Proof

I always wonder why people need proof of humanity? Why do we always seek to see the vulnerability of a person so as to label them worthy of compassion?

I do not claim that I've never done this to anyone, however I do remember situations when I knew that the strong, unyielding person standing before me was just as insecure, vulnerable and sensitive as me. I realized it without them showing a weakness and I didn't ask them to show any, because I know how humiliating it is to appear weak. However, people never give up; they push and push until others collapse.

Our religion has instructed us to be giving and compassionate with all people, even those who are cruel. Yet, I see that most indiscretions and injustice is done to those we care about, claiming that we care about them. Why would you humiliate someone because you care about them? It doesn't make sense.I do understand that part of our humanity is the fact that we have emotions, but this doesn't justify us trying to manipulate each other in the name of being human.

I do get uncomfortable during emotional situations, but that is not the only reason why I dislike them. I dislike the fact that someone who is good, just and honest can not be dubbed worthy without showing emotion. I dislike the fact that the only situation in which we can show this person kindness is if they show vulnerability. I think we fail to understand that a wounded lion might bite, scratch and growl, but that doesn't nullify his wound. Just be kind to good people without condition. It is those who do not show emotion that are the most sensitive; it is a defense mechanism.

I guess it's because we're always vulnerable ourselves, and we tend to seek it in others to validate our own feelings ..

True, compassion should be given without reason.
